Why did you decide to hire a remote dev team?
We’re in the Silicon Valley, San Francisco,
it’s extremely expensive and competitive there, and with the startup
budget, you have to be resourceful. But at the
same time, you have to find people who are good. While the Valley offers really
great candidates, some of them are really expensive to hire.
I had to expand my search to all possible places where I could get good
talent, so I decided to look remotely.
There are lots of options for hiring remote engineers. What made you choose YouTeam?
One reason is that YouTeam is a Y Combinator company and that was a major factor. Second, when I looked
at the
YouTeam website and your suggested candidates, it jumped at me that you had candidates that had the background
and the skills
I was looking for. I reached out to
YouTeam and you set up
the interviews—once I started talking to the candidates, I was able to find people that I was looking for.
How long did it take to get the work started?
Probably a couple of weeks. We interviewed a few candidates who have just wrapped up some
other projects,
and they were available at that time to start.
What made you decide to hire these particular developers?
I interviewed them. Being an engineer myself, I was able to ask them some tough questions, and they
did very well.
They also had good work experience and knowledge that I was looking for. So I
decided to test them out.
What’s the main value of YouTeam for you?
Simplifying and helping us to find talent. As a
startup you need to find the right talent
at the right time. Tapping into a pool beyond The Valley is extremely valuable.
At the same time, since we’re a startup, things can change pretty quickly for us and being able to have some
sort of flexibility guaranteed by YouTeam was valuable.
And then, on top of that,
YouTeam has been very receptive and responsive, the customer success and support teams have also been
exceptional. Now that we’ve worked for almost a year, I can definitely say I was very pleasantly surprised.
When should companies consider hiring a remote team?
If you’re at the point where you need to move fast and make quick changes to
your product, and are struggling to find good talent, and you are on a budget—I
think it’s a good idea to look into hiring remote engineers.
How would you pitch YouTeam to other companies?
We’re the best marketplace for remote engineers who are exceptionally talented and can help your startup grow and build an amazing product.
